Hi all
Further to earlier messing about with an access point and a wireless
router in an attempt to extend the range of my wireless access, I
decided to get a second access point/repreater to do the job.
Situation is now this:
- First access point connected via CAT5 to DSL router/modem in main
room
- Second access point intended for use to extend the range to another
room in the house (not connected via CAT5)
I would like to use both devices as access points, and think I can use
the first (wired) device to extend the range to the second device. Am
I correct in this thinking?
The devices have 3 modes, 1 - access point, 2 - repeater, 3 - access
point + repreater. What modes should I set the first and second
access points in to achieve the desired situation?
Currently they both have the same SSID and Channel setting (as
specified in the instructions). The result I get is that the first
device works fine as an access point, and I can browse the web fine.
The second gives me a signal, and I can associate with it, and I can
ping it. However, when I try to browse the web, I get a popoup window
from IE saying it cannot access the requested search page, and the IP
address on my laptop becomes set to something in the 196.xxx range.
My network is in the 10.x range. DHCP is switched on on my laptop,
the access points have fixed IP addresses. None of my neighbours have
wireless networks in the vicinity.
For the record, the devices are Sitecom WL-013 access point/repeaters.
Can anyone help or explain to me what is going on?
Many thanks
Chris
