Hi folks
I am trying to configure Thunderbird ready for my broadband which is
enabled on Monday.
The settings given by my ISP (Demon) give the outgoing mail server as
post.demon.co.uk but Thunderbird will only allow the default (smtp?)
server and not let me enter details manually?. Does this mean I`ll have
to use Internet explorer :-(.
No doubt all will become easier when I start configuring it. Would like
to continue using Thunderbird if poss.
Cheers
Steve

Have you scrolled to the bottom of the Account Settings window where
there is an Outgoing Server (SMTP) tab? You can enter the details
manually here. If you have more than one outgoing server under the
Advanced tab you can set up multiple servers and then choose the
appropriate one for each account.

Thanks for that Tony.
I feel a pillock now, was starting to panic that I might not be able to
use Thunderbird with broadband.

First of all, the SMTP server is the server you connect to at your ISP to
send outgoing mail through. In the case od Demon, the SMTP server address
is post.demon.co.uk, BT Internet's SMTP server is mail.btinternet.com,
Plusnet's is (E-Mail Removed), and so on.

In Thunderbird, you can enter the SMTP server address for your ISP in each
mail account's settings. If you're not sure how, read Thunderbird's Help
Files.
