I have just purchased a new poweredge 400sc with Windows
2003 Server. I need to configure it with a basic DSL
line and connect 2 clients to it. Everytime I try to
configure it to connect to the internet and the local
network (two NIC cards) I am not able to configure it. I
can't get to the internet and I can not configure the
local network. I have the server connected to the DSL
modem on one NIC card and the other NIC cards is
connected to an 8 port MSC SWITCH wich then connects to
the clients.
I am not sure which info I should have for DEFAULT
GATEWAY, DNS and such.

Can you give me an idea on how to do this. My ISP
provides dynamic ip addresses and when I first start the
configuration I get an IP address like: 192.168.16.2
which accroding to MS I should leave as default.

HELP!!!

Okay. This assumes your server has the following roles:
DNS, DHCP, Active Directory (AD is only neccessary to
authenticate users. You can still route internet access
through server for anonymous clients.)

DNS Properties on server:

DNS server 192.168.0.1
Forwarder Your ISP's DNS server IP

DHCP Properties on server: Gateway: 192.168.0.1 DNS
Server: 192.168.0.1 Scope: 192.168.0.2 - 192.168.0.x
(any number up to 254) Subnet mask is always
255.255.255.0 for Class C (192) network.

NOTE: The only place your ISP's DNS information should be
used is as a forwarder in your DNS properties.

Remember to activate/authorize your DNS and DHCP
services.

Network properties for NIC card going to Internet:

Obtain IP address automatically. Prefered DNS server
automatically obtain. Gateway automatically obtain.

If I've left anything out, someone please complete the
instructions.
Network properties on NIC card for your Private Network:

Statically assign a 192.168.0.1 (The DNS/DHCP/Gateway
server likes this address). Subnet mask is 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway is 192.168.0.1. Preferred DNS server is
192.168.0.1

If it were my server, I'd pick up a hardware firewall/router appliance -
they're cheap these days and mean that your server doesn't have to act as a
router.
