I am currently using the Windows VPN to connect to a server via pptp and
would like to connect using IPSec & a 3rd party certificate instead. Am I
able to use a 3rd party certificate or do I have to generate a self-signed
certificate? Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Phil

You can use a thrid party cert, but it is very easy to create your own, and
even better it is free! I am making the assumption here that you are using
Windows 2003 Server. Here are a couple of links to articles that will help
you get this done.

http://technet2.microsoft.com/window....mspx?mfr=true

http://www.microsoft.com/technet/sec...t_root_ca.mspx

After you get your Enterprise Root CA installed on the VPN server, open the
management console on your PC, add the certificates snap-in, and import your
Root CA certificate by right clicking Personal, and requesting a new CA.

HTH

Sammy

Oops forgot to say, if you want to connect from a machine not on the domain,
you must export the certificate with private key, transfer it to your home
machine, and import it. Be sure to import it into the computer account.

Thanks for the info. I've already paid for the 3rd party certificate so I
didn't want it to go to waste.
