configure a TCP/IP stack on ISDN card

Hi all,

I use Windows ME and I've installed a Fritz! PCI ISDN card
and tried to set up the tcp/ip protocol stack on it. Oddly
enough in the network/configuration menu where one can set
the hard- and software properties for networks, I can only
add clients, protocols and services, but there is no entry
(button) for network cards... :-( From Windows 95 and 98 I
know that there is such an entry. Just configuring tcp/ip
without binding it to a network card is not possible since
windows removes the protocol after restart if not bound.

Does anyone know about this and/or where I get a
patch/upgrade/update to fix this strange "behaviour"? I
couldn't find anything that helped. Even a re-install of
Windows ME didn't help.

Thanks!

hagen

If it's one of those old ME2000 cards you need to load drivers and
configure from a floppy.

Sorry, NE2000. I had a few of them, a darn pain.

As you've discovered, Windows Me doesn't have a button for installing
or removing network cards in My Network Places | Properties. Go to
Device Manager to do those things. If the ISDN card is properly
installed in Device Manager, it will automatically appear in My
Network Places | Properties.

Hi Mike,

it isn't an NE2000 but thanks for the hint. It made me
looking for a tool from AVM who's Fritz card driver I had
already installed. I was not aware that they also offer a
configuration tool. Seems like this solves the problem to
get the card running with tcp/ip. But it's nevertheless
strange that I cannot add any network card in the network
configuration menu to bind it to some protocol...

anyway, thanks for reply

NP, also looks like I missed an important item, see Steve Winograds advice.
A lot of those install and show in device manager as "NE2000 compatible"
which is what I meant. They could be any number of brands.

FWIW, a new Linsys can be had for about $4US after a rebate. it may be
easier than dealing with that old monster. Good luck.
