how to configure linux macine as router

hai,

Can anyone please tell me how to configure a linux machine in a
network to behave as a router.please give me the steps involved in
it.And also tell me the woking of the router and the routing
information about it.

Perhaps you might tell us just what you are attempting to set up so as

You can configure this either manually (see other postings) or you use a
GUI:

Under SuSE invoke "YaST2 firewall" and you can configure a very basic
firewall + optionally routing features. You can post tune it a bit by
editing /etc/sysconfig/SuSEfirewall2

http://www.simonzone.com/software/guidedog/ is a GUI to configure a router
under all Linux distributions. You can combine it with
http://www.simonzone.com/software/guarddog/ to configure a firewall

http://www.fwbuilder.org/ is my favorite GUI to configure a firewall and a
router.
