how to config mn500 with existing router

I have a netgear router, the cable modem is plugged into
it. the mn500 doesnt seem to work unless i take the router
completely out of the picture, not going to happen. Will
this thing work with a router or not?

You need to configure the MN-500 (While not connected to the other
router) then put it in bridge mode.
