Conecting two machines using UUCP, what's missing??

Hello all....
I'm trying to connect to RedHat 7.0 machines via ISDN Phone lines.
Both machines are conected to the ISDN lines, via a TA (terminal
adapter, a sort of modem.... I think...)
As part of the test conditions, I'm obligated to use Taylor UUCP to
achieve the desired efect, wich is:
- with the command: cu <remote Machine>
Acces the <remote machine> and login as root (upon connection, a
logon prompt is displayed... I don't want auto-logon)

After numerous hours and hundred of pages of documentation, I finally
got UUCP working on one machine, and when I type the command, the
other machine rings, but doesn't answer...

My doubt is, if I succeded in dialing to one machine from the other,
what is missing in the remote machine that allows it to answer the
call and send de logon prompt to the other!?!?!
I'm guessing, Chat scripts... but all I can find in the documentation
is the syntax of these scripts, not examples.

I'm a newb in this hole linux thing and these kind of conection
protocols are somewhat cumbersome.....all input is gladly apreciated.

Thank you.

Are you running a getty on the serial port on the other end?
I've always had good luck with mgetty. The "minimal getty"
that runs on virtual consoles isn't fancy enough to deal with
serial ports and modems.

After you've got a getty running, the next question will be:
Does the TA send a "RING" string or assert the RI line
on the RS-232 interface?

I suggest you use mgetty on machine B.
On machine B, you create a user, which has the uucp system as a shell ...
and so machine A logs into machine B, and both are talking UUCP down the
line, and they exchange the files and run the scripts to deal with them.
