Computers talking in their sleep

I have two labs full of systems that when powered off (power going to
system but the system is not booted) are sending tons of network
traffic out. Enough to clog up my entire campus net. I checked the BIOS
and can't find anything in there pertaining to the network adapter
other than it being enabled. I don't believe the switches are bad. Most
of the traffic seems to be just tons of ACK packets. Anyone have any
clue what could be going wrong or what could be done to try and correct
it?

I know there aren't a lot of details here but I'm hoping someone has
heard of this sort of thing before.

Thanks!

Tracked it down. Someone before me looped a cable from one port on a
switch to another. Simple things that cause a world of trouble. Now I
just need to find out who and why...
