Configured a network of three computers using windows xp network wizard. Two
of the computers can see shared files on the third computer. However, one of
the network computers cannot see the shared files on the other two computers.
Using ping in the command window confirms that all computers are connected
to each other. However, when I run ipconfig/all in the command window, I see
that for two of the computers, the DNS suffix Search List is the name of the
workgroup. The DNS suffix search list for the third computer is the name of
another network that is connected (when enabled) by a VPN client. How do I
fix this problem so that all of the network computers can see the shared
files on the other network computers?

This is a good questing. I assume we can fix this issue by enabling NetBIOS
over TCP/IP. If not, please post the results of ipconfig all here.

Hi
look at the Control panel/Network Connections.
If the adapter with VON None home connection appears there right click on it
and choose Disable.
Another rig click and choosing Enable will re-enable it if needed in another
time.

Hello Jack,

Thanks for looking into the problem. I looked at the Control Panel/Network
Connections but there is no adapter with your description. Maybe, I don't
understand what you mean by an adapter.

If you can ping each other by IP but name, this is name resolution issue. I
don't see NetBIOS over Tcpip. . . . . . . . : Enabled in the ipconifg /all.

I don't understand your comment" If you can ping each other by IP but
name, this is name resolution issue.". However, I have pasted the
ipconfig/allof the three c omputers with the NetBios over TCP/IP enabled.
The previous message had the ipconfig/all for the netBios over TCP/IP
disabled. By the way, the two computers that can share files on the
network, Rich and Marilyn, have windows XP Pro whereas Dave's compter is XP
home. Is XP home less capable for this neworking application?
