Computer not on workgroup

I have a Windows XP Pro machine that is not seeing the workgroup, but
is still getting Internet access. I've tried a bunch of different
things to get it to join the workgroup, but with no success. I'm ready
to start fresh, because I really need to get this computer to see the
workgroup (causing family strife since it is only convenient to have
our printer attached to that computer.)

So, can someone help me fix this? What do you need me to provide on my
current computer?

Thanks!

Did you enable File and Printer Sharing?

What is assigning the TCP/IP address?

How many PCs in your network and what are they running? Home or Pro?

Hi Cari,

File and Printer Sharing is enabled.

The Microsoft Broadband Base Station is assigning IP addresses for all
the computers.

I have a total of 3 PC's and 1 Mac on the network:
- 2 Desktops running Pro
- 1 Laptop running Home (connected wirelessly)
- 1 Mac running OSX

The Mac is the only computer that can connect to the desktop that
doesn't want to cooperate. It connects thru SMB using the IP address.

Thanks!

Make sure you've enabled the exception in the Windows Firewall for File and
Print Sharing

To do this, goto Control Panel, Windows Firewall. Then goto the exceptions
tab, and then make sure there is a check mark beside the File and Print
Sharing button.
