I have a desktop with Win98 and a laptop with Win XP.
Both machines are successfully connected to a Linksys
wireless router and are able to use the internet. I am
trying to setup a share on the Win98 computer in order to
share files. From my laptop (XP) I can see my desktop in
the Newtwork places area. However when I click on the
desktop computer to try to get to the share I setup I get
the following error message:

'Desktop is not accessible. You might not have
permission to use this network resource. Contact the
administrator of this server to find out if you have
access permissions. The network path was not found.'

On my desktop I setup the share as full access without
specifying any password. Any help would be greatly
appreciated.

I have this identical problem on my Linksys network. And
I get the same error message you do. This same problem
does not happen on my windows 95 machine. i.e. the XP
machine can access the drives, files ok.

I am continuing to search the web for an answer to this
problem. If I get an answer, I'll post it.

I still don't have file sharing working. I know both
machines are up and running. I can see the 98 machine
in 'network places' but I get the error when I click on
it. I have seen this error at work before when there was
a permissions issue. If I have a permissions issue I
don't know what it is because I granted wide open access
on my Win98 machine.

I am a little suspicous of my router. I have a fair
amount of security turned on and I don't know if that is
causing probems. I will work with that soon. If I find
anything I will let you know.

Jumpin Johosafat yeahaaaaaaaa!

I had a firewall on my win98 computer that was preventing
connectivity from the laptop. It took me so long to
figure it out because most of the posts on this site talk
about the built in firewall. However, I purchased a
firewall software package back in the days when I only
had my win98 computer and a cable modem. When I added
the IPs as acceptions to my firewall then I was able to
connect from machine to machine.

The built-in firewall is included with Windows XP.

Windows 95, 98, ME & 2000 have no such 'feature'.
