I have set up a small home network of two pcs and a laptop. When I ask one
of the pcs to 'view network computers' it shows the other machines Ok. BUT,
when I tray to access the other computer I get the message "so and so is not
accesible, you might not have permission to use this network resource".

This is only one way though - I can access the pcs from my laptop OK.

I have searched all over for info on this 'access permissions' problem but
can't find a word about it anywhere. I am sure that it is something very
simple but it beats me - can anyone help??

thanks

Robert

Hi
Successful Sharing involves some general consideration in Network settings,
http://www.ezlan.net/sharing.html
As well as specific adjustment of each computer according to what is allowed
to be shared.

Thankyou very much for the links, I am aware of file and printer sharing and
have set those up but I did suspect that it could well have been a firewall
setting which was causing the problem.

I will read the info you provided very carefully and try again, I hope you
don't mind me geting back if this fails!!!

Thanks again.

hello again

I think I am almost there --- I need to 'tell' my firewall to allow the
computers on my network.... I think that's right - is it?

Can you tell me how i find the IP address of each of my machines so that i
can add them to my firewalls's exceptions box?

thanks again
