do you mean - what command you use to name them?
or - what naming convensions do people use?

I use star trek characters to name mine - sad i know. I know people who
name theirs with vegetables, with space shuttles, and one who names his
through characters from the magic roundabout.

Ah. You've hit upon the most difficult problem in computer
networking. Many people choose a "theme". For example:

The solar system: mercury, venus, mars, saturn, pluto, etc.
Disney characters: mickey, minnie, donald, pluto, dopey, sneezy, etc.
Famous 19th century supreme court justices: Marshall, umm....

I use Naval Ship names, with a prefix to designate collections:
hmsendeavour, hmscollosus, hmstrafalgar
usslosangeles, ussseawolf, ussmain, etc.

is this a "me too" thread? =-)

i do something similar, i use the various pantheons of cultures, refering to
the name of that culture for the 'collection' (or subnet in my case).
ie:
quetzalcoatl.aztec.foo.org
hanuman.hindu.foo.org
zeus.greece.foo.org
dagon.sumaria.foo.org
....
you get the picture.
now as to the routers, printers, and other stuff... well, that's easy! gods
always have henchmen, people they rule, familiars, and the like... read up and
figure out what works for you. then you can impress your friends with your very
sensical setup, and impress chicks (well, geek chicks) with your deep cultural
knowledge. =-)

peace,
cj

Having a theme certainly makes life easier when trying to think of new
names. I name my networks after islands of the Caribbean. Each
network/sub-network is an island with the hardware named after towns. I
find this way it's easy to recognise a system's likely function from it's
name - ie. servers named after cities/large towns with the main server
named after the capital, routers named after airports and seaports etc.

Looks like your sets aren't big enough. ;-)

One possibility for a theme is to name your boxes after exploits that
target Microsoft vulnerabilities. You'd never run out of names then.
