I have been trying for weeks to solve the "hangs at
shutdown" problem After reading MS KnowledgeBase article
261766 "Hang at Startup or Shutdown with Ndis.vxd Enabled"
I have determined that with Ndis.vxd disabled, the
computer shuts down properly. However, I think it is
enabled with booting in Safe Mode, and the computer still
shuts down properly in Safe Mode. So, I am still
confused.
That file (Ndis.vxd) shows up in two places on my computer:
C:\windows\system and C:\CompuServe2000\net\winme
It is a Microsoft file and the version is the same for
each - 4.90.0.3000. Now am I supposed to try to find an
updated version or a workaround from CompuServe or find
another MS KB article or what? I can't just leave that
file disabled since it is needed for CS to work and other
internet functions. Since it is described as a Microsoft
Networking file, I have looked to MS for a solution and
can't find one. There was a hotfix for Win98 2nd edition,
but not for Me.
When computer shutsdown there is a black screen with
blinking cursor in upper left hand corner similar to
another Knowledge Base article about Netgear adapters, but
I don't have the Netgear adapter. Since this may be a
hardware or software related problem, I will send this to
those sections also.
Thanks for any suggestions.
