computer doesn't detect connection

I am using Me(Laptop) and a wireless Lan card. When I try
to connect to the interent, dial up appears. If I set my
properties to "never dial", I just get "network not
detected". I check my winipcfg, and my ap is 0.0.0.0.
After 10 to 15 minutes, I get a message telling me that a
DS sever and IP address is interfaced(Tranlated) and my ip
changes and then I am able to connect to the net. Can I
save this information so that when I restarted my computer
that this information is available? Why doesn't my
computer orginally detect the network?

How many IP addresses have you told the router to assign? What is the lease
time?

I have been visiting my family and they do not have a
router, I am running the wireless card port straight into
the modem. At first my computer detected the networt
connection, but now it does not detect the network for
about ten minutes or so. How do I assign IP addresses to
a router? Am I limited to the number of different
networks I can use. I use basically a different network
every week. I do not know what you mean buy lease time.
I own my router at home, but most of the networks I use
are at hotels.

"I am running the wireless card port straight into the modem."

I have no idea what you mean by this. Perhaps if you describe in more detail
the equipment you have and what you're trying to accomplish I could be of
more help to you.

I am using a corega wireless lan APL-11. I guess port
meaning hub(please excuse my language)or whatever the
Wireless Lan card is generating it's signal from. Also,
when I run a direct line into the modem, the use of a
networt is immediately detected. Why not with the
Wireless? Thank you for your Patience.

Windows 98/Me were designed and made before wireless existed.

How can it know you have wireless unless you alter it's programming (using
drivers and software provided by the wireless manufacturer).

It would be like owning an old car and wondering why it won't run on
Unleaded gas. There was no such thing when the old car was originally made.

The wireless works fine at home, When I first tried the
wireless at my parents house, it immediately detected the
network connection, but I was unable to connect because
the internet provider would not let me in until I signed
up. I took care of that and I originally got online with
no problem. But when I shut down my computer and tried
the next day, my computer did not detect the network.
After several minutes a error message appears, telling me
BSS ID is assigned to a IP address and the interface
cannot be used(translated).I click ok. And I can connect!
Should I or can I manually assign the IP address to the
wireless? How?

I would recommend you post your question in
microsoft.public.windows.networking.wireless
