How are you connecting to the Internet? I assume there's a router somewhere
and that you have configured it to get your Internet connection.
I also assume you have not created a PPPoE connection through Windows.
If you haven't already, connect your computer directly through the router
(don't use the USB adapter) and see if you can connect OK. Once you have
done that, go figure your wireless connection.

I also recommend a spell checker. What in the world is ""diside"??

sorry, crap post.(i blame drugs)

the internet conection is adsl through a usb modem (bt) which works fine.

there is know router as it will be a ad-hoc wireless network as it is only
connecting to one laptop.

If you don't have a router, you have to manually assign the laptop IP
address. Your main computer should have 2 IP addresses by the way - one for
the ADSL connection and one for the wireless card. The laptop and pc
wireless need to be in the same subnet eg 192.168.1.x
