Compatibility with SP2?

I'm confused by people's experiences with MS broadband
networking software. On my new Dell computer running XP
Home, I installed Windows XP SP2, got my DSL connection
working, and then began to install my MS wireless
network. When I got a message about compatibility
problems with some versions of Windows, I called MS
wireless tech support. The technician said without a
doubt that the existing software is not compatible with
SP2 and I had to uninstall it if I wanted to set up my MS
wireless network. Reluctantly I did so (on my new Dell
and an older Dell) and we got the wireless network to
work after several hours' work. Contrary to his strong
stand against SP2, we did get my notebook running XP Pro
with SP2 installed to support the wireless network quite
easily.

He said a new version of the software (and/or firmware, I
am not sure) will be out in two to three weeks to resolve
the compatibility problems. Then I can install SP2.

Who's right here? This MS technician was excellent but
many people on this board seemed to have had successful
experiences with MS wireless hardware and software and
SP2. I look forward to your opinions and advice.

Ken

What is incompatible with Windows XP SP2 is frontend software, however if
you use the native configuration utilities in XP, you'll be fine. The newer
drivers for Microsoft routers/base stations are available here:
http://www.microsoft.com/hardware/br...DLoadMain.mspx
Make sure Wireless Zero Configuration is turned on and running in Control
Panel/Administrative Tools/Services, and use that to configure your machine
for the network.

Thank you, Chris, for responding.

I just checked for updates and my software is up to date.
Can I safely install SP2 and expect my MS wireless
network to continue working? Thanks.
