Comparison of 3rd-party WRT54G firmware

Hello,
I just installed a WRT54G v.2 at my house, upgraded from a
Microsoft MN-500. I want to experiment a bit with the 3rd-party
firmware available on the internet (i.e. HyperWRT, OpenWRT, etc.) but
there are varying amounts of information regarding functionality on
them. Does anyone know of a site online that compares the different
firmware so that I can ascertain which ones I want to experiment with,
or perhaps folks here could share their experiences and
recommendations.
