Do you guys know where I can find a mini-PCI internal 802.11b/a/g card
commercially? I am getting a laptop and it does not have a wireless card
and I want to give it one can connect to any wi-fi network but I want it to
be internal because I don't want stuff hanging out of my computer.

Is this laptop wired for it? As far as I know, you'd need to have the
antennas installed in order for a mini-PCI wireless card to work. If it is,
I should expect you could get the card through the Laptop vendor.

I know IBM sells them. In fact I know that I can't use one that is not sold
by IBM.

I saw a couple of mini-PCI cards sold but they were discontinued.
The way you can get one is buy one of those PCI cards that actually have
mini-PCI slot soldered on them and mini-PCI card in it, and then remove
the shielding and take out the mini-PCI card. D-link and Linksys have
such PCI cards, Netgear might have that too. Personally, I bought
Linksys router and took out 802.11g mini-PCI card from it for my Acer
laptop - works wonderful. But if you want it to work properly with
laptop that's rigged for wireless (has special hardware button to turn
on/off wireless and/or activity indicator) you need to know exactly what
brand of mini-PCI it will work with. Then look at drivers for those PCI
cards and routers and figure out which one contains the proper mini-PCI
card. Note, that you may miss easily, so it may cost you more that you
are willing to pay to have this trial and error.

So, unless you are adventurous kind or really, really, really need this
internal card, stick with PC Card variant.

I believe it does. It a is a gateway 600 that I am getting off of ebay.
I believe that it is wired for it but the original buyer didn't opt for the
wireless. BTW gateway dosen't sell the cards without the computer.
