So, I have cable internet, and I have an old hub that provide BNC
ports, and although I've never actually used a BNC network I've always
heard BNC uses coax cable, and cable TV/internet uses coax, but
apparently they are different types of coax? Because I can't plug the
cable coax into the BNC port. Is there a cheap and easy way to jury-
rig something?

To do what, exactly?
To plug your raw cable onto a BNC-equipped NIC?
That won't ever work.
Cable modems speak an entirely different language with the upstream node than
what a peecee NIC speaks.

Otherwise/fwiw, "Thinnet" is typically what was plugged onto NICs with BNCs,
and Thinnet is 50 ohm, while most cable companies run 75 ohm coax into the
home...
