Clients temporarily lose network connectivity

I have clients which occasionally lose network connectivity, while they are
actively working on shared documents from the server. Somethimes the client
is given an option to repair the connection, but not always. However,
selecting repair or attempting to reconnect to the shared drive seems to
resolve the issue. This loss of connectivity occurs sporadically, but most
frequently around 6PM. The tape backup does not start until 11PM. DNS is
scavenged weekly and ends around 8PM. I don't know if the start of the
scavenging process could account for this. The event logs around that time
are clean.

Might be worth putting a network sniffer tool and seeing if there is an
increase in traffic at that time. The sniffer should tell you which clients
are talking the most

A tape backup wouldn't cause your clients to loose connectivity, it would
just slow the server down.

Are these clients loosing conectivity from everything or just one particular
resource?
