Might be worth putting a network sniffer tool and seeing if there is an
increase in traffic at that time. The sniffer should tell you which clients
are talking the most
A tape backup wouldn't cause your clients to loose connectivity, it would
just slow the server down.
Are these clients loosing conectivity from everything or just one particular
resource?
