Help! I just upgraded my NT server to WIN 2003. Now users
are hanging and getting disconnected from mapped drives
and the throughput speed is awful. I have retested
network bandwidth with a Win 2k server and had no
problems. There are a total of about 15 XP Pro clients
and a couple w2k clients. I am using an HP4000m switch
and a gig port on the Compaq server. Thanks for any help
or tips. Joe

Have you checked the port statistics on the switch for errors when the 2003
server is connected?

With what sort of clients? 2003 is not as tolerant as W2k. It has stonger
default security which will cause problems with legacy clients.

Yes I watch the switch and ports are good.
My temporary fix has been to edit the host file on 2003
server. At this time I have Active Directory running but
not DNS.

That is your problem. Install DNS and point your server and your clients to it.
Then you can set it to forward requests to your ISP. NT did not depend on DNS
like a 2000/2003 domain. The 2000/2003 Active directory depends on DNS to find
its server records. DNS is the single greatest issue you will ever have with
this kind of domain.
See this, I realize it is for 2000 but the concepts apply.
