clients of a domain not accessible

Having set up a new 2003 server as DC (the only server in the network), the
clients aren´t visible anywhere, nor you can access them, neither by their
name´s nor by there ip´s, although they respond ping commands. Only the
server is accessible. Other related problem: you cannot share printers
attached to clients.

As far as I know, the network node in the server is well configured: in the
wins section you see the server´s ip, and the netbios seems also ok.

Any idea?

Hello José,

Your description is not that clear, are the workstations added to the domain?
What do you mean with aren't visible? Printers in a domain should be installed
cnetralized on a print server and not be shared on workstations.

Best regards

The clients haven´t any problem to enter the new domain. But only the server
is accessible in the domain. You cannot reach any client nor any shared
printer by the clients, nor using Network Places nor searching for computers
or printers. It doesn´t work either the direct order \\client ip.

Hope it is more clear.

Hello José,

Please post an unedited ipconfig /all from a problem client and the server.
Are they all on the same ip subnet? Did you enable NetBios over TCP/IP on
the NIC configuration advanced, WINS tab?

Best regards

Hello José,

Check the subnet mask of your clients:
255.252.255.0

Server use 255.255.255.0

Change it and run ipconfig /flushdns and ipconfig /registerdns on all machines
which are wrong.

Best regards

You nailed it, Meinolf. I was just going in the complexities of 2003 SBS and
it was as simple as a subnet mask mismatch.

I´ve breathed a lot better thanks to you.

Best regards,
José Luis Ochando
