My next door neighbour has got his Livebox up and running but when he
rings to my ordinary BT line my CLI says 'International'. Now that is
plainly wrong.
Is it something he has missed on setup?
Are his calls routed from abroad?
Is it a case for oftel?
Thanks, Graham.

These are VoIP calls?

Not if they are routed overseas and back.

No - Oftel don't exist. Why doesn't he speak to Orange and then failing
that Ofcom?

When I was on BT and my friends and family called me, from their BT
lines, between 08:00 and 18:00 Mon - Fri their CLID would display as
"International" when they were calling from their UK BT lines.

Why was this you may ask, well the reason is they use 18866/1899/18185
to route their calls, this group of companies routes the call outside
the UK and back in again as it is cheaper to do so, and this is why they
can charge the very low rate to call other landlines.

I now see the full international CLID when they call when the call is
routed outside and back in again, as in 0044121nnnnnnn or sometimes
44121nnnnnnnn, as I no longer have a BT line but use VoIP instead
myself, and unlike BT who mask the international number, VoIP displays
it as is.

It could well be your neighbours calls are being routed outside the UK
and back in again.

You could blame BT for masking the CLID behind International, but
they've been doing it for years.

OFTEL, who are they? It's OFCOM now, but what can they do, BT mask the
CLID as they say they can't trust the CLID.

the Orange Livebox includes a VoIP ATA function and they bundle
inclusive calls with the 20quid broadband product.
