Hii,
I have to submit a paper this sem. Though it wont be a original paper
or anything like that, I would really be happy if I could do the paper
on something meaningful, not just an overview of ipv6, so that I can
mention such a thing in my cv. However I am completely new to this
topic, dont belong to computer science and dont know the various facets
of networking. If you guys could help me a bit in picking a good topic
which is happening but not too technically nitty-gritty it would be
highly appreciated.

Yeah, there are places where you download "non-orginal" content.

Yeah, keep that resume up to date. Pad it nice and thick.

You are still qualified according to the Bush administration-
you're the leading candidate for an appointment to the IETF.

Allow me to suggest a topic:
Monoculture's

The soft-and-chewey interior behind the corporate firewall.

I did help you. I suggest you read the article that I suggested. I
re-read it myself, and it is one of the most important things that I've
read the past few years. The ideas have yet to gain traction, as the
business community laments the delay in MS Vista. They are all clamoring
for the next bright and shiny paintjob from Redmond.

Sorry, for the lame attempt at humor. It was not intended to flame you,
but be a commentary on the current situation. Sorry.

Come on guys....

This guy is looking for suggestions on a technical topic that a
non-techie might be able to do a good job on....

It *is* his homework; he's not asking to copy your work, just for
interesting topics.

Flames are completely out of line here....

As for suggestions, security wrt monoculture might be interesting; also
the growing rise of embedded machines that control *everything* from
trains to dams, and yet have no security built-in...

The childish efforts of some to apply security to these open/embedded
systems like the one I heard this week - neither the password nor the
hash is kept on the machine; instead the machine keeps a record of where
to find the password on the computer that is requesting access....
Basically, if you have the correct path and filename, you can substitute
*any* password and it will work. And this was from a very large
industrical electronics manufacturer....

So... There is a topic for you. Not too technical unless you get into
the details, with great social and economic impact.

Intellectual Property: My lawyer can kick your lawyer's ass. See you in
court.

-or-

Intellectual Property: Can the obvious be patented?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Researc...ent_litigation

Software patents give the illusion of vast new areas of "ownership." Thus,
lawyers are chomping at the bit to promote the status quo and new
restrictions. IMO, IP arguments add a lot of wheel spinning to the
economy without adding any new real value. Direct copying should be
the only thing not permitted- all look and feel lawsuits should be
non-starters. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Look_and_feel
