Personally I think the cities are doing the right thing, shame it's not in
the UK. The councillers are elected to represent the people of that city.
Providing wireless networks is a step forward. As it is with ISP's, that
are in it to make money, it's not 'cost effective' to supply everyone with
access. This way at least *everyone* will get the chance to connect.
I'm still subject to a monopolistic ISP/telco in my city, so something like
this would go down really well with me in any case. Not that our council
would do it - they own 43% of the telco that has it's grip on the city
anyway. Oh well what it must be like to live in a 'free' part of the UK or
US where choice is available.
