i am havig trouble connecting to a router using telnet on
my 98 machine please advise

You should use "telnet xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx" -- router IP address. If not
login can be a Firewall or proxy machine between Win98 & router.
If don't can solve this, try using a serial>>Ethernet cable by
connecting on the Console connector, back of router unit. Use
Hyperterminal, Connection on COM1 at 9600/8/n/1/n
Just press Enter on Hiperterminal console.
