What are the number of users that an individual Aironet 1230 Access Point can
support, both optimally and as a maximum load?

Regards,

Dusan

The MAC address table has 256 slots, so that's your limit on the
number of simultaneous wireless associations (connections). It can
handle more, but will drop stale entries to add new ones.

The actual loading depends upon the type of traffic and the size of
your backhaul. Rule of thumb for WISP services are:
100 light users doing casual web browsing and occasional email.
10 business users with a number of machines behind one IP.
1 peer-to-peer file sharing user.
This may sound like a bad joke, but it's for real. The numbers are
also subject to much debate. Performance can be improved
substantially by implementing some form of traffic shaping and
bandwidth limiting per user to prevent one user from saturating the
system. You may wanna ask the same question in the WISP mailing list
at:

Some clue as to what you're trying to accomplish with this system
would be helpful as location, interference, co-channel users, and
traffic patterns have a big effect on user loading.
