Hi,

I'm thinking about buying a draytek router together with the pccard
Vigor540 (http://www.draytek.co.uk/products/vigor540.html)
I want to use this card also under Linux so I would like to know if the
chipset used is supported by Linux.
But I can't/don't know how to find out the chipset.
Any help is welcome.

Willem G

As it turns out, the best supported (IMO) chipsets are Prism based. I
just searched for a reference I saved about wireless on Linux, but
cannot lay hands on it. You might Google: linux wireless since that is
what I used to find the link. Prism chipsets are found in some Orinoco,
Linksys, cards and install as whatever the distro has as Prism. You can
look at hardware compatibility on the distro site. It is difficult to
find out the chipset, and then you have to make certain that the vendor
has not changed it. Linksys has done this as posted elsewhere.

You might get better assistance from alt.os.linux.[distro name here] or
comp.os.linux.networking.

Thanks for the reply Quaoar.
I just received a note from Draytek support.

Thanks for your mail.
We're sorry to inform you that the Vigor540 do not support Linux OS.
And it uses the Intersil chipset.
Hope this information helps.

But then I searched on Intersil and found the following.
Intersil developed PRISM, but PRISM has now moved to Globespan Virata ->
http://www.intersil.com/globespanvirata/

So, if Draytek is using Intersil, then the chipsets are PRISM based and
so I can use http://prism54.org

Some good general info I found about WLAN and Linux ->

Willem.
