Flarion claims wireless broadband breakthrough

A NEW VARIATION of its OFDM based wireless data technology, known as
Flexband, has been launched by America's Flarion. The company estimates
Lexband will enable existing cellular operators to offer subscribers up
to 1GB per month for just $10 per month. That figure assumes around 600
users per cell.
Flexband will be up against the likes of WiMax but it is aimed
specifically at operators who will require a mere 1.25MHz - 5MHz of
bandwidth. Flarion also claims that Flexband is at least five times
faster than any comparable offering at present.
In raw data terms Flexband can burst up to 5.3 Mbit/s for the downlink
with 1.8 Mbit/s for the uplink. That translates to a typical user
experience of 2.5 Mbit/s, slowing to 800 Kbit/s at the fringes of the
network.
Given that Flexband can operate at any frequency between 400 MHz and
3.6 GHz, it can be deployed by existing operators in Europe, Asia and
North America. Another reason why The INQ is predicting that the 450
MHz band will be hotting up in Europe. µ
