Can anyone recommend a cheap broadband provider for a colleague with a
weekend cottage who isn't going to need much in the way of data volumes? My
colleague doesn't want an all-in-one bundled service, just the basics!

Many thanks.

Depends on where he is, www.mynow.co.uk is a good Wireless BB provider,
256kb £10 a month
512kb £14/month
1Mbps £18 a month

Thanks for the wireless suggestion, but I think it's probably unnecessary -
broadband does reach the village (only recently, apparently) so this would
be the preferred option.

http://www.plus.net/residential/broadband/
Option 1
£9.99 a month, 1 month contract and 1 Gig per month allowance.

Don't forget there are still PAYG dialup options - no signup or contracts
needed.
If he's only there at weekends the calls will be off-peak rate; 1p a minute.
I know 56kbps is slow compared to broadband but it would do for email and
basic browsing.

Thanks, but with broadband at their main home, dial-up is felt to be
painfully slow, so they definitely want a wired broadband deal.

Newnet, 1GB/month usage at whatever the line will support for about a
Tenner a month.

What about an arrangement with a neighbour to share the bandwidth and cost?

Virgin Media 2mb for a tenner a month? Assuming cable is available.
