Which chat daemon ?

Are you talking about the 'chat' command to script a modem dial-up sequence
?

Or are you talking about installing a 'chat server' ? In that case you have
many choice with many protocol (irc, jabber, or other instant messaging
protocol, and other chat non standard system).
