Channel 7 eratic

Strange effect on my WiFi recently.

I operate encryption over channel 7, no obvious interference and
adjoining property empty.

Today I had very eratic signal strength to my Access Point, getting on
occasions 500ms plus ping rate even though in same room as AP.

Changed to channel 3 and now fine, no strange weather or obvious
electrical equipment running either.

First time I've experienced that, anyone else had similar.

I had what initially appeared to be similar symptoms a month or
two back, which I enquired about on this newsgroup. That is,
a setup which once worked started behaving erratically. Channel
changes initially seemed to solve the problem, but after
a while the problems returned. Then it became apparent that the
Access Point was regularly rebooting itself.

Turning it off for an hour or two initially resolved that
as well. But within a few days it was apparent that it was
effectively non-functioning. Before I replaced it, I had
observed behaviour like:

(1) Power down all wireless devices and AP to try to
isolate problem.
(2) Power up AP, then access its management interface
from a wired machine - all OK
(3) Turn on first wireless machine and attempt to connect -
fine for 10 seconds, then AP starts rebooting.

With another AP all is now well.
(This was a Binatone AP if that is of any interest. I see they have
now bowed out of the market, in the UK at least.)

As I deal with alot of networks, all I can suggest is update to the
latest firmware, If not, inform the manufacturer of the problem, I
strongly believe it may be a firmware fault.

If that all fails or it becomes unbearable, all I can suggest is buying
a new AP, unless your familliar with PCB and solder! (and heatsync may
be required - according to schematics of the AP) lol
