Well you are not saying what "doesn't work" but I'll assume your internet
connection.
Most cable modem companies will record the MAC ID of the first ethernet
device (NIC, router, etc,) to access their service with any particular
modem. You probably need to call your ISP and inform them of your change.
Just tell them you bought a new NIC card for your computer and your service
doesn't work anymore. If in the future you switch back to the router you'll
need to use it's "clone MAC address" command. This will cause the router to
assume a WAN MAC ID that is identical to your computers NIC card. This way
the ISP doesn't see a MAC ID change and all stays well. This is assuming
your router has this function. If it doesn't then I would seriously consider
buying one that does as yours is lacking a key feature.
