Hi All,

I have 2 interfaces on same subnet ..

intface 1 = subnet 1
intface 2 = subnet 1

whenever any application sends packets ,actually it goes through
interface 1 ..can I change this routing table behaviour and send packet
from interface 2 ( I don't want to do application level changes )

Thanks ,
Rahul

For simple routing, you must not have two interfaces
in the same subnet.

The more complicated routing methods are explained in the
Adv-Routing-HOWTO, which is available from any Linux
Documentation Project mirror site.

And you are posting from google, yet didn't think to search there first?
This is a very common configuration error, as there are few instances
when it serves a useful purpose.

Yup - when you have two interfaces leading to the same place, the kernel
uses the last one you configured because it assumes you changed your mind.

Change the sequence they are brought up, or figure out what you are
really trying to accomplish and then check the solutions in the HOWTO.

Hi,
Thanks for yourr response..
Actually I want ot change preference anytime betwwen application is
running..

like if I brought up intf1 first and then second one ( intf2 )
so default preference will be for intf1..( considering both on same
subnet )

now I want to change that prefernce nad make second default one (
intf2)..
can you please tell me how to do this..?

Thanks,
Rahul

Why are you doing this? If both interfaces lead to the same place, you
are not accomplishing anything useful. If they do NOT go to the same
place, your network mask is incorrect.

Why do you think you need to do this?
