Changing port number in Remote Desktops snap-in

Hi there,

has anyone worked this one out yet?

Using the Remote Desktops MMC snap-in, that is part of
the Windows 2003 Admin tools pack, you are unable to
specify a port number after the server name.

You can do it using the XP Remote Desktop client, but you
get an error when you try and do the same in Remote
Desktops.

Anyone have any ideas? Perhaps this snap in just does
not allow it (pretty silly thing to leave out from my
perspective) or perhaps you can manually change the
setting in the registry or a file somewhere?

Remove the NOSPAM from email if replying via email.

Cheers
Mark

Hi Mark,

The MMC Snap-in doesn't provide this functionality, it needs to be done in
the registry:

Nope, sorry this is old information and not relevant to
my question.

1. I am not asking how to change port numbers for
Terminal Services (that is not a problem)

2. The Windows 2003 admin tools Remote Desktops snap-in
does not save the information to the registry in any way
shape or form and there is no way of exporting this
infrormation.

So the question remains, does anyone have a resolution
for this? I have seen people ask this in the past,
emailing them reveals that they still have no answer so
perhaps it is not possible.

Cheers
Mark

Hi Mark,

Sorry about that. I'm not sure if the same goes for the admin tools for XP,
but on the 2003 "Remote Desktops" MMC Snap-in one can specify the port by
typing in serverort for the "Server name or IP address" in the "Add new
connection" window

Well that is strange then, I just tried that on my 2003
server and had the same problem with the same error
message:

The server name cannot contain the following
characters: space, tabs, ; : "< > * + = \ | ? ,

The version of the Remote Desktops mmc snap-in that I
have on 2003 is 5.2.3790.0

Are you sure you are not confusing the Remote Desktops
snap-in with the Remote Desktop Connection program???

Cheers
Mark

Hi Mark,

I am sure I am not confusing the two. I tried it on a clean install and it
did not work, so it's not just you. I vaguely remember installing a hotfix
on the machine that I tested it from, but I cannot find a reference to that
fix anywhere

Sorry
