Changing to Non-Linksys firmware on WRT54G version 1.1 router ???

I've read some of the threads and was hoping that I could get some specific
recommendations on this.

I recently upgraded my Linksys router(WRT54G ver 1.1 according to the tag
underneath the unit) firmware to version 2.02.02, however I want more out of
this router's firmware and beleive that one of the other "unofficial
firmwares" may provide additional benefits (ie power output & speed).

Any suggestions on which firmware versions (ie. Sveasoft or WiFi-Box)
should/can i apply to get better performance and control over my router's
capabilities while maintaining my WPA security protocols.

I've downloaded the Satori_v2_2.00.8.7sv-pre1.bin and am considering
installing it if it will work with ver. 1.1, but I understand it may only
work with hardware version 2 or later.

Suggestions???

If you want to go this route, then you have to adopt the attitude that
the entire venture is in your hands only. Once you are comfortable with
that, you will know exactly what to do.

If I muck it up, can I always revert back to the Linksys firmware or am I
basically dead meat?

As far as I know, there are two parts to the firmware. There's the
open-source part that controls most parts of the router and there's the
binary driver, which is not open source but which is responsible for most of
the problems with the router. The various unofficial firmwares modify the
open-source part and include one of drivers. Since the 2.00 firmware's
driver is supposed to be for the v2 router only, it might not work properly
for the v1.1 (it locks up my v1.0 after a half day or so). However, it
seems that some people have been able to use v2.00 on v1.1.

I managed to temporarily break my router once downgrading the firmware (the
red diag light kept blinking and the router became unresponsive). After
contacting linksys, they instructed me on how to fix the router. Basically,
it seems that the part of the router that can flash the firmware is
difficult to break. If a firmware fails to install properly, you need to
connect a computer to the router by ethernet, assign it a fixed IP address
(e.g. 192.168.1.5), reboot the computer (strangely, this did not work until
rebooting the computer even though W2k was reporting the fixed address), and
run one of the automated firmware upgrade programs (the web-based upload
will not work).

Thanks,

Any recommendations for a "approved" firmware that will give me any
improvement without blowing up, or should I play it safe.

Please note that the Linsys website's WRT54G firmware V2.02 release has a
release note that clearly indicates this V2.02 firmware releases works with
ALL WRT5G hardware revisions (including V1.0, V1.1 and V2.0)

Forgot to tell you that about a week ago I also updated my WRT54G of
hardware revision V1.1 with this latest firmware revision V2.02 from
Linksys, and so far I don't have any problem at all.

James,

I've done the most recent Linksys upgrade, but it doesn't really offer
anything new for me.
