Changing MAC address on wireless

I have a strange problem.
Dell 610 computer with built in wireless.
I didn't think you could change the MAC address. I am running a server
program where it changes the MAC address on the wireless every time the
server is stopped.

How is this done?
Can I prevent this from happening?

I don't think you can actually change the factory-set MAC, but it's all
too easy to "clone" another MAC address, it appears for all intents and
purposes that the MAC changed. What server program is it?
