Changing .11b card to .11g in Toshiba Tecra S1

Hey all.

I'm trying to upgrade the Intel 2100b wi-fi card in my Toshiba Tecra
S1 to a wireless G card, as my university is restricting access to the
campus network to G cards only.

I've known about various difficulties with changing out these cards,
but i thought i'd give it a shot. I have a mini-pci Intel 2200bg card,
and it installs fine. Windows XP detects it, installs drivers etc etc.
Everything appears to be fine as far as the OS goes, but I cannot get
any signal. As well, the power light on the front of the laptop will
not light up with the G card installed. Lastly, the centrino logo
normally appears next to the toshiba one on bootup, but that has been
replaced with a Pentium M logo.

Re-installing the B card, everything returns to normal.

Anyway to get around this seemingly BIOS level problem? Any other
solutions to get wireless G inside this laptop (non-pcmcia)?

Can you describe exactly how you went about installing the card - I'd
like to do the same thing, but have no idea how to get at it.
