Hi All

I am currently on virgin as there was not contract thank goodness as there
service now seems to be going down hill, I want to change to demon as they
offer a fixed ip. Can anyone tell me the procedure to transfer and any ideas
of the down time between switching.

Thanks

Glenn

Well, if Demon can't (or won't) tell you that themselves, perhaps you
should reconsider your choice!

You'll probably need your CBUK number for your line and tell Demon what it
is when you order a migration of services.

Virgin don't support migration.

What Glen would have to do is cancel Virgin - once its disconnected he will
have to wait 4/5 days until BT Wholesale remove the ADSL equipment from hs
line on his exchange and then reapply for ADSL with his new ISP.

Total downtime should be under two weeks.

But Glen, do you *really* want to choose Demon as your new ISP? Read
demon.service and remember lots of other ISP's offer a static IP as well
with their ADSL product.

Finally, Virgin seem to be having problems recently but I thought they were
addressing those issues (unless your problem is unrelated) - see
http://www.adslguide.org.uk/newsarchive.asp?item=1419 and
http://www.adslguide.org.uk/newsarchive.asp?item=1418

Regards
Sunil

Isn't it just migration TO Virgin that they don't support?

I'm with Zen and they provide static IP addresses - you can choose a
single IP or have 8 (five usable) at no extra cost. I've been with Zen
for years and not had serious problems - there was a slow patch a year or
two back, but since then I've had no serious problems with the connection
itself.

I believe they don't support any migration at all.

Migration to Virgin would be in their interests (more customers) and if they
don't support that, they are not going to support customers migrating away..

Well that's not very good, not that I've ever considered signing up with
Virgin.net.

It would be more difficult for me if I wanted to change ISP (which I
currently don't) as I would have to do two migrations - from the engineer
installed USB500 (or whatever it's called) then to the new ISP.

I've not actually migrated from Virgin (YET) , but apparently migration is
supported :

Well, I've been waiting over three weeks for my UKCB number from
them. It seems Virgin are somewhat reluctant to lose anyone.

Anyone know if virgin have ever supplied a customer with their ukcb
reference with BT?
