We plan to remove our DHCP server and install DHCP on another server in our
domain. Is there anything special I need to do, e.g. save settings, or?
before removing? Thanks.

David

David,
Here is the procedure.

Log on as an Administrator and stop DHCP (Start - Settings - Control Panel -
Services - Microsoft DHCP server - Stop).
You also need to stop DHCP from starting again after a reboot so start the
Services Control Panel applet and select Microsoft DHCP Server and click
Startup. From the startup choose disabled and click OK.
Copy the DHCP directory tree %systemroot%\system32\DHCP to a temporary
storage area for use later.
Start the registry editor (regedt32.exe)
Move to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Servic es\DHCPServer
\Configuration
From the Registry menu, click Save Key. Create a name for this key, for
example dhcpcfg.bck
Close the registry editor

On the new DHCP server perform the following

Log on as an Administrator
If the server does not have the DHCP server service installed, install it
(Start - Settings - Control Panel - Network - Services - Add - DHCP Server)
Stop the DHCP service (Start - Settings - Control Panel - Services -
Microsoft DHCP server - Stop).
Delete the contents of %systemroot%\system32\dhcp
Copy the backed up DHCP directory tree from the storage area to
%systemroot%/system32/dhcp, but rename the file system.mdb to system.src. You
may not have this file if you are using NT 4.0, skip this step.
Start the registry editor (regedt32.exe)
Move to
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Servic es\DHCPServer\Configuration
and select it
From the registry menu select restore
Located the file dhcpcgf.bck you saved from the original machine and click
open
Click Yes to the warning
Close the registry editor
Start the DHCP service

On the old DHCP server remove DHCP in ad/remove Programs.
And your done.

That did not work.
FYI, I have windows 2003 servers and AD.
Two things:
1. I do not have
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Servic es\DHCPServer\Configuration
Undr DHCPServer I only have Enum, Parameters, Performance and Security
folders.
2. There is no system.mdb but there is a dhcp.mdb so what do I do?

Thanks.

David

I you have not got system.mdb then skip that step.
copy all the files and folders in %systemroot%\system32\DHCP to the new

Sound like you will have to manually move the setting across to the new DHCP
server
You need to reinstate the scope and any reservations.
