I`ve signed up to Central Point and was wondering how succesful people were
in getting trouble free broadband from them.

Any stories would be grateful, doesn`t matter if they are good or bad
stories.

Could you post the time taken from signing up to getting activated, did they
need hassling? and what Speed product you went for..

Cheers

Ho ho ho!! Are you in for a treat...

I signed up for their 2Mbit service on 5 February and told them that my 512k
BT broadband would be terminated on 2 March.

I rang CPBB on 5 March to ask when my new servcie would be activated. The
guy on the other end of the phone said he would contact Telefonika to find
out what the score was. He didn't ring me back.

2 weeks later I rang again, got the same guy on the phone and asked when I
was going to get connected. He said he had an invoice for the equipment to
go into the exchange and that it was normally 2-3 days installation. He
said he would contact Telefonika and ring me back. He didn't.

On 1 April I rang BT to find out if they had terminated my BT broadband
properly and to find out if there was anything else on my line that would
stop CPBB connecting me up. The line was clear.

Rang CPBB again on 8 April, got a woman this time. Told her I wanted to
know if my new service was ever going to be activated. She said she would
contact Telefonika to find out why it was taking so long. SHE rang me back.
Said it would be 3-5 days, so because of the Easter bank holiday, it would
be next Friday 16 April.

Got home from work on 15 April and my USB modem had 2 green lights on it.

Yippee, I thought. Now to see if I can connect...

No such luck.

On Friday 16 April, I called CPBB technical support. Some bloke answered,
and after I explained that my line was active but it would not connect, he
told me to go to the CPBB website and register for support on the helpdesk.

I said, just how am I supposed to do that exactly, seeing as I don't have a
working Internet connection, and slammed the phone down.

An hour later after I'd cooled off a bit, I rang the CPBB support number and
spoke to the woman again. I told her my line was active but something must
be wrong at their end. She said she would try to find out what the problem
was and ring me back. She didn't

BUT... when I got home on Friday, I tried again to connect and IT WORKED!!!

So the first thing I did was write an email to their director (Rob Brooks)
to complain about the absolutely appalling service and the TEN WEEKS it took
them to actually connect me up.

I did get a letter of apology and 1 months free service, which isn't much,
but better than nothing. Mr Brooks did say that he had taken steps to make
sure this sort of thing doesn't happen again.

AND... I haven't had any problems with it since.

Stu.

Hi Stu,
I`ve heard there`s more work involved in getting 2mb into the exchange (Via
Telefonica).
It`s a shame really that the experience for you was bad :0( I bet your glad
it`s all ok now though :0)

How are you finding the 2mb now your connected? Ping rates any good would

Surfing and downloading are just brilliant. Instant web pages, and 50Mb of
windows updates downloaded in about 5 minutes.

I don't do any online gaming, so I'm not really bothered about superfast
ping times, but last time I checked it was about 190-200ms. I don't even
know if this is good or bad!!

Stu.

Would you mind doing a quick test for me STU?

Apparently they don`t route their traffic over Germany now so that should
make a difference.

Cheers so far

www.multiplay.co.uk a traceroute would be handy aswell so I could see how
many hops it`s going over but a ping will suffice mate if you can`t
traceroute bud :0)
