how can i get my arp command to go thru the ethercard to my cd tower instead
of trying to search the internet?

arp is used to assign a static IP to the hard ethernet address of the cdrom
tower

i see activity on my dialup modem, but no activity on ethercard or cd tower

have netbui and tcp installed and all adapters are showing up

any ideas?

ARP would be the protocol you would use to assign an IP address to a MAC
address (in this case your CD tower), but the ARP.EXE program found with
your OS is used for a different purpose (local diagnostics, really) and
won't help you.

I worked with a plextor tower before, and I had to obtain a special OEM
program that allowed me to enter the tower's MAC address, which allowed me
to use ARP and BOOTP protocols to assign the IP address. Generic programs
of the same time (particularly those found on *nix machines) will do the
same thing, but the OEM program will probably be much easier to use.

when the net access control is setup for "user level access control" i was
able to assign the ether add to somewhere (196.55.6.77) and i got a ping
response (from somewhere!) using the arp and ping in w98.

during bootup, i get activity betweeen cpu unit and tower, probably just the
hardware making connections.

Procom site has some ware for these, so i may end up getting that. their
manual says these are" easy and simple to connect to microsoft w9x
networking" hmmmmmmm........:-))
