cardbus detection and cpu speed

My 166Mhz notebook does not recognize the wireless PCMCIA card (D-Link
650+) is inserted. I've tried 2 different cards and neither one is
detected on boot up.

The System Requirements printed on the box say "Laptop with available
cardbus type II slot" but D-Link support says I need a 300Mhz cpu.

What the heck does processor speed have to do with PCMCIA detection?!

Hi Dan;
Cardbus is not the same as PCMCIA, cardbus is 32 bit and PCMCIA is 16 bit.
I am afraid you will have to search around for a PCMCIA card. The 650+ is a
cardbus card.

Thanks Tom, you nailed it.

So why didn't the dumb-ass tech support guy know this? And why are the
two types of cards physically interchangeable?
