Can't use XP Instant Messenger, but can access Internet including
using VPN on Linksys WAP11 v.2.2 connected to a Netgear RO318 router
but can access the WAP from Win98 machine. Can use IM from XP using a
wired connection. Can use IM from XP in a different office using a
different WAP.

Any suggestions?

Thanks

Make sure you have upnp enabled on router. If you can't find it, you may
need to upgrade the firmware....

does the wap11 have any port configuation?

if so add the file share port number for messenger (cant remember the port
number off hand) do a Google for the port numbers used..

UPnP, helps by automaticaly assigning the ports for the device. but its not
needed if you can add/remove ports yourself .

Do you guys mean uPnP in the Access Point or the Router? (The WAP11
is plugged into a router.)

Also, we're only using text, not voice/video. My research says that
text shouldn't need uPnP for just text:

It's not a router or switch. There's no facility that I can find to
direct ports. It's just an Access Point. One ethernet connection
that I connect to our router.
