My MN-500 base has worked great for about 2 years... 2 weeks ago, on my xp
work station that connects by wire to the base, internet stopped working. It
still connects to the LAN. The internet works on all the wireless systems
that connect to my base station. I tried connecting to the base station with
a wireless connection from the xp work station and it still would not
connect. Every time I entered the WEP address it would tell me it was
incorrect. I know it is correct, and I even re-entered it into my other
wireless systems to confirm. I tried connected by wire through the base
station with another computer and it connected to the internet with no
problem.

This lead me to believe my Broadband Utility software was corrupt. I didn't
have my oem cd so I downloaded the software update and utility firmware from
the website. I tried to install both download's on my xp work station without
success. The installation keeps getting hung up asking for me to locate the
file MSBN.msi. When I point it to this file, it says that it is "not a valid
installation package for product Microsoft Broadband Networking". I
eventually found my oem cd and tried uninstalling/reinstalling the software.
Same result as above, "not a valid installation package". In a rage, I
deleted the MSBN software files. They are gone, but I still can't uninstall
or reinstall the Utility software.

I realize I probably created more problems than solved but I just don't
understand why it stopped working.

How do I:

1.Remove this software completely (from the registry?). So I can reinstall.
2.Getting my computer to connect to my base station again?

Thanks in advance.

Dave

1. Guessing your computer is on Windows XP, use System Restore and a
Restore Point.
2. Guess again about XP, after #1 is completed and you've uninstalled the
MSBN software, go into Control Panel/Administrative Tools/Services, and way
down near the bottom, make sure Wireless Zero Configuration is started and
running.

WZC will allow you to use XP to configure the wireless connection in Network
Connections, without the "front end" MSBN software.

Like I said it's my "xp work station". I don't have System Restore enabled
so I don't have any restore points.

I can't uninstall MSBN software because it keeps giving me the message that
was in my original post "not a valid installation package". WZC is started
and running, still can't connect.

Then I suggest you use the Microsoft Knowledge Base articles here:
http://support.microsoft.com/common/...e&sz=broadband
System Restore is for all Windows XP computers, and can save a lot of pain
sometimes.
