Can't turn off Windows Firewall - Greyed out on Workstations

Hello,

I have a SBS 2003 server environment with 6 workstations. Each
workstation has the ability to log on to the server or log on locally.
Historically I've used Zone Alarm exclusively on the work strations
and have just turned off Windows firewall. Prior to SBS2003 this was
no problem. However, with SBS I find the work stations can't turn off
windows firewall locally, with the following message on the firewall
page: "Windows firewall is using your domain settings."

Each workstation now has Zone Alarm and Windows Firewall running and
it's munging up my networking abilities as follows: Each workstation
needs to communicate with a Linux server weekly. That server needs to
access the work stations to gather data. With Zone Alarm, I've had no
problem configuring the Linux server to access the workstations. But
when Windows Firewall runs with Zone Alarm, I can't access them. The
workstations can access the Linux Samba shares but the server can't
access the workstations.

How do I turn off Windows Firewall on each workstation. I only want
one Firewall - Zone Alarm. Must be a setting on the server I'm
missing.

If any other info is needed, I'll gladly provide.

Regards,

Buck

the clients are telling you the solution. there is a domain security
setting that locked on the firewall. i don't have a domain setup here that
i can check, but go through the domain security policies and you should find
it there. with that turned on you probably couldn't configure the windows
firewall on the machines to let the linux box in either.

Dave,

Thanks for the input. I haven't seen anything in the Domain Security
Policies that would address the issue......not sure what to look for.

I also went into client computer through Server Management, then to
manage computer, services and turned of IPSEC. Didn't make any
difference.

I'll continue to troubleshoot and google around more for a solution.
If I have any success or can come up with a better, finer tuned,
question, I'll report back.

Thanks again,

Buck
