Need to be able to have firewall box (nokia, unix) box be able to send
mail for alerts, fw generates alerts, but win2k server with exchange
denies access

If i try to telnet, connection refused... any other windows box can?

where can the issue be in the win2k box?

any guidance would be greatly appreciated...

AL

Hi,

What is the error that you get if you try to telnet to port 25 on Exchange
server? Is it time out or something else?

Make sure that you have a rule on your nokia, unix firewall that allows
outbound connections to port 25 on your Exchange box.

Can you check your firewall logs? What do they say?

Log shows telnetting accepted from fw to email server, then in less then
(1) second: CONNECTION REFUSED...

must be exchange server refusing because of unknown user, as nokia box,
doesn't have a domain name or part of domain...?

MS Telnet (on Win2000+) supports NTLM authentication
and it may be set to REQUIRE this.

(It can be disabled to allow clear text passwords.)

Gosh, I don't memorize such trivia <grin>
(at least not on purpose.)

Google:

[ telnet ntlm disable site:microsoft.com ]

Looks like all of the top hits describe how to do it....
