can't share printer or files

I just brought a D-Link router/wcardbus adapter card. I successfully
installed all drivers and as of now I have both the laptop and desktop
connected shareing the same internet connection. When I try to network the
computers togther to share the printer I can't get a connection. Any help
would be greatly appreciated
